B+ Hero Spotlight: B+ Hero Mateo and Alpha Phi Omega
The relationship between a B+ Hero and their paired organization is not only special, but also reminds us of the importance behind everything that we do for the kids. Starting this summer, we will be introducing B+ Heroes and showcasing how valuable the experiences between a family and their paired organization are.
B+ Hero Mateo and Alpha Phi Omega were paired in the spring semester of 2018, and since then, he has become the “musician rockstar” of their organization. The past two and a half years have been spent getting to know each other, creating memories, and becoming the close friends that they are today. Every member of Alpha Phi Omega has grown to adore B+ Hero Mateo, which can be expressed through their experiences as a paired organization.
One of their favorite memories together was at UDance 2019, where the brothers of Alpha Phi Omega had the opportunity to join B+ Hero Mateo on stage, and sing with him as he played his electric guitar. What made the moment even more memorable was singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him and celebrating such an important milestone in front of thousands of people. Between small moments and huge events, B+ Hero Mateo and the paired organization have created unforgettable memories and an unbreakable bond.
Some of those smaller, but still special, moments spent with B+ Hero Mateo include dressing up for Alpha Phi Omega’s B+ Halloween Party, grabbing snacks at Carnival for a Cure, and celebrating the holiday season at UDance’s B+ Holiday Party. The days spent together have allowed B+ Hero Mateo to truly shine, and show off his various skills and interests. He has won every game of Mario Kart played with the organization, and even hosted a music session at his house for everyone to attend. The members of Alpha Phi Omega pride B+ Hero Mateo on his video game expertise, incredible musical abilities, and so much more.
When asked to describe B+ Hero Mateo, the brothers of Alpha Phi Omega had so many kind and encouraging words to say. “He is talented, intelligent, humorous, and a kind-soul who demonstrates so much passion and potential,” was just the beginning of it. They expanded on his drive, especially when it comes to music. He knows how to play the guitar, both acoustic and electric, exceptionally well, and he dabbles in playing the piano. Along with his musical abilities, he’s an avid lover of Harry Potter, video games, and solving Rubik’s Cubes. Although he may seem shy at first, getting to see B+ Hero Mateo break out of his shell has been an honor for the brothers of Alpha Phi Omega.
As we enter the new school year, it is sure that the brothers of Alpha Phi Omega and B+ Hero Mateo will continue to discover new ways to keep in touch, and see each other in person when it is possible.
