B+ Hero Spotlight: B+ Hero Maci and Sigma Alpha

The relationship between a B+ Hero and their paired organization is not only special, but also reminds us of the importance behind everything that we do for the kids. This past summer, we began introducing B+ Heroes and showcasing how valuable the experiences between a family and their paired organization are.

B+ Hero Maci was first diagnosed with cancer in September of 2018, and she successfully finished chemotherapy with optimism and strength. She was soon after paired with Sigma Alpha at the University of Delaware, and the paired organization quickly became her big sisters and closest friends. Within the past few years, they have developed an extremely strong connection, and the sisters of Sigma Alpha feel immensely thankful to have B+ Hero Maci as their inspiration and shining light. Through every event she attends, she reminds each member of Sigma Alpha to Be Positive, and appreciative of every moment they experience.

Although the organization has gotten to know B+ Hero Maci throughout many different occasions, their favorite memory together is their trip to Milburn Orchards. They were able to run around the “Big Backyard” and play games with B+ Hero Maci, who was having so much fun picking apples and petting farm animals. B+ Hero Maci radiates a sense of positivity and pure happiness, which easily spreads to every person around her. They ended their trip with a hayride through the orchard, where they were able to bond with B+ Hero Maci and learn more about her personal story, interests, and more. This is an experience that the sisters of Sigma Alpha will never forget.

Along with fall time activities, B+ Hero Maci has joined the sisters of Sigma Alpha at FTKickoff, UD Basketball games, and the B+ Hero Holiday Party. All of the members love spending time with her, and have made it a priority to stay connected and show how important their B+ hero is to them.

Spending time with B+ Hero Maci has brought the organization so many valuable memories, as well as an overall understanding of everything that makes B+ Hero Maci the cheerful, outgoing, and positive girl that she is. Her favorite things to do include playing softball, watching movies and TV shows on Disney Channel, and spending time with her friends and family.

“Her energy is unmatched by any other little girl that I have ever met,” say the sisters of Sigma Alpha. “She transcends this positive energy every time she interacts with the sorority, and we love spending time with her so much!”

As we continue the semester, the sisters of Sigma Alpha plan to continue building and developing their relationship with B+ Hero Maci. They look forward to future UDance events, apple picking trips, and so much more together, as well as the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children similar to B+ Hero Maci.
