B+ Hero Spotlight: B+ Hero Reena and Club Volleyball

The relationship between a B+ Hero and their paired organization is not only special, but also reminds us of the importance behind everything that we do for the kids. This past summer, we began introducing B+ Heroes and showcasing how valuable the experiences between a family and their paired organization are.

B+ Hero Reena completed her cancer treatment in the spring of 2019, and that upcoming fall she was already back on the volleyball court, and being paired with the University of Delaware’s Club Volleyball Team. Her dedication and perseverance, as shown through her ability to bounce back from anything, has become the team’s biggest inspiration. Within the past year, B+ Hero Reena and the Club Volleyball team have developed a close bond that is able to withstand anything.

The Club Volleyball team first met their B+ Hero, Reena, over a group dinner at Panera, and they instantly connected over their mutual passion for volleyball. This bond was special from the start because she was so close in age, and it felt like she was another member of the team. B+ Hero Reena quickly became a part of their family, and getting to know her has been an experience that they will always cherish.

Between attending each other’s games, a variety of UDance events, and even Zoom calls, the team feels honored to know and spend time with B+ Hero Reena. Her ability to achieve any goal she puts her mind to, as shown from not only beating cancer, but also jumping back into volleyball soon after, has inspired the team to continuously push themselves to always do better in all aspects of their lives.

Although the team has created so many valuable memories with B+ Hero Reena, their favorite experience thus far has been attending her high school volleyball game and supporting her as a team. They created posters for the day and made sure to be the loudest cheerleaders in the room. Everyone at the game knew exactly who they were there for! Watching B+ Hero Reena in action was not only exciting, but also so rewarding after knowing everything she has been through. Her win that day felt extra special, and they were honored to celebrate with her after. The team considers themselves to be her biggest fans, and they look forward to the day they can attend another one of her games to cheer her on.

With the UD Club Volleyball team attending B+ Hero Reena’s volleyball games, she has done the same for their team whenever possible. They always look forward to seeing her at any tournament she can attend, and her positive energy and enthusiasm gives the team the strength they need to be at their best. B+ Hero Reena has become a central aspect of their team, as well as their biggest motivation to show strength and bravery, just as she has throughout her life.

For the team, the most gratifying aspect of spending time with B+ Hero Reena has been getting to know more about her story, her goals, and her passions. Not only is she an absolute fighter, but she’s extremely passionate about helping others and hopes to study physical therapy in college. They believe that her willingness to support others shows just how amazing she is as a person. She’s optimistic, hardworking, and an overall shining light within every room that she enters. No matter the situation, the Club Volleyball team plan on supporting her through every goal she achieves.

Although the current semester looks different, and we aren’t sure of the future for athletics or events, there is nothing that can separate the team from their bond with B+ Hero Reena. Whether it’s through Zoom calls, or in-person events, B+ Hero Reena continues to inspire each member of the team to reach new heights, be brave, and fight back against anything life throws at them. They look forward to future tournament days and UDance events spent with their hero, as well as continuously pushing themselves to fight childhood cancer with the same perseverance that B+ Hero Reena has shown her entire life.
